Coastal Resilience Center of Excellence (CRC) Principal Investigator Dr. Isaac Ginis and colleagues have made significant contributions to the National Weather Service’s operational hurricane prediction models.
The Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory and Hurricane Weather Research and Forecasting models adopted Dr. Ginis and colleagues’ inputs this month. The upgrades will help track storms in the Northern Hemisphere basins, including the Central Northern Pacific, Western North Pacific and North Indian Ocean. The modeling work of Dr. Ginis, who is a faculty member at the University of Rhode Island, is also part of his CRC project.
