Dr. Mai Nguyen will discuss the findings of the report: Resilient Design Education in the United States: Current and Emerging Curricula in Colleges and Universities (2018).

Dr. Nguyen teaches in the Housing and Community Development specialization in the Department of City and Regional Planning at UNC-Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on housing policy, social and spatial inequality, and resilient communities. She is the interim MURAP Program Director. She also serves as the Director of New Faculty Programs at the Institute for Arts and Humanities.

Dr. Nguyen is currently the Chairperson of the Urban Affairs Association Governing Board. She is the founder and moderator of Planners 2040, a Facebook discussion group that engages urban planning scholars globally in lively discussion on innovative teaching and research topics.  Dr. Nguyen played a key role in the Hurricane Matthew Disaster Recovery and Resilience Initiative, a multi-disciplinary team of faculty, students and practitioners.  She also served as a Co-PI of an Obama White House sponsored and Department of Homeland Security funded study assessing the state of disaster resilient design curricula in United States colleges and universities.
