Natural Hazards Resilience Speakers Series: Keith Acree

Keith Acree, Public Information Officer, North Carolina Emergency Management: “Public Information During Disasters and Emergencies”


**Due to university precautions regarding COVID-19, this class will be held remotely through Zoom, and a recording will be posted on the CRC website .**

For 20 years, Acree he has handled public relations duties in state government, first at the NC Department of Correction and then at the NC Department of Public Safety. In his current role, he is responsible for coordinating the public information functions of the State Emergency Response Team when it activates, and operating its Joint Information Center. He works closely with the Governor’s press staff and public information officers from a variety of state government and partner agencies when disasters strike. He has also served as part of the American Red Cross Advanced Public Affairs team, with deployments to the Mississippi Gulf Coast for Hurricane Katrina and to Oso, Washington after a deadly mudslide in 2013. In North Carolina, he helped manage Red Cross public affairs operations after Hurricane Irene and the April 2011 tornadoes.
