Overview and Proceedings

The Department of Homeland Security Coastal Resilience Center of Excellence, in collaboration with U.S. Coast Guard, will host the 7th Annual Maritime Risk Symposium (MRS 2016) on Nov. 14-15, 2016, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This event will focus on “Integrating Maritime and Coastal Resilience.”

MRS 2016 is designed to bring together invited leading researchers and practitioners in the maritime and homeland security sectors to build networks and generate ideas for future research projects that may be pursued via the Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Centers of Excellence or other complementary means. The event will encourage practitioners to identify pressing needs in their fields and inspire researchers to think beyond their current focus. Working together, we seek to define a research horizon that will enhance maritime and coastal resilience to disturbances that are both natural and man-made.

Coordinators

The 2016 Maritime Risk Symposium Chairs are:

  • Dr. Rick Luettich, Professor and Director of UNC-Chapel Hill Institute of Marine Sciences and Lead Principal Investigator of the Coastal Resilience Center of Excellence
  • Dr. Joe DiRenzo III, Director of Research Partnerships, Research and Development Center, U.S. Coast Guard
